Vermont farmer Juan De La Cruz came to U.S. illegally from Mexico years ago and married an American citizen. But even though De La Cruz is permitted to work in the U.S. and does not have a criminal record, he does have a prior record of deportation, meaning the government now has orders to detain him.

Kathleen Masterson (@kathmasterson) of Here & Now contributor Vermont Public Radio has this story, which highlights how federal immigration enforcement priorities may be shifting.

This story comes via the New England News Collaborative.
