California Braces For Fentanyl Invasion

Fentanyl is no longer just a problem for the East Coast and the Midwest. The powerful synthetic opioid — 50 to 100 times more potent than morphine — has recently shown up in California's street drugs, too. There are still a relatively small number of fentanyl-related deaths in the state, but they rose sharply in 2016.

As Pauline Bartolone (@pbartolone) of Kaiser Health News reports, California public health officials are taking a bold and somewhat experimental approach to prevent more overdoses.
