Pandemic-Induced Medical Shortages Strain Global Fight Against Other Highly Infectious Diseases

Over the past few years, the global fight against HIV, malaria and tuberculosis — which claims an estimated 1.5 million lives a year — has been making grounds. The coronavirus pandemic might be upending those inroads.

With medical workers and resources such as personal protective equipment allocated to combatting and containing COVID-19, these other highly infectious diseases are again on the rise.
