An 18-year-old gunman opened fire on an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, on Tuesday, killing at least 19 children and two adults.

Sergio Martinez-Beltran, Texas Capital reporter for NPR's the Texas Newsroom, joins us from Austin.

Editor's note: The guest in this segment incorrectly characterized Texas' gun laws, which have never required a license to purchase a firearm. Texas recently allowed for the carrying of firearms without a permit. We regret the error.

This segment aired on May 25, 2022.
