77,000 In Mass. Still Without Power

An estimated 77,000 homes and businesses in Massachusetts are still without power five days after an ice storm hit the state.

Some 900 utility crews are working to restore power.

WBUR's Fred Thys reports.

Tree specialist Troy Forstrum says on some streets in Lunenburg, a tree has fallen on every house.

FORSTRUM: Just about, mostly all your back streets you can't get in, hardly any of them. They're blocked off.

A movie theatre in Fitchburg reports an increase in business as people who have lost power seek warmth. Stores are reopening: the main mall in Leominster is open, as are businesses in downtown Fitchburg.

But many manufacturers say they don't know when their power will come back. And at some businesses that are open, employees are not showing up for work.
