New York MTA Increases Fares, Cuts Service
If they can raise it there, they can raise it anywhere...
Earlier this month, WBUR reported on public transit funding woes nationwide.
At that time, Kevin Ortiz, spokesman for New York's Metropolitan Transportation Authority warned that the MTA was close to passing what it called a "doomsday budget". He warned of steep fare hikes and the elimination of two subway lines, saying that service cuts were inevitable if New York legislators didn't act on recommendations put forth in a rescue plan called The Ravitch Report.
