Support is coming in from around the nation for a North Andover High School student punished for trying to drive an intoxicated friend from a party.

North Andover senior Erin Cox says a friend called and asked her for a ride, and when Cox got to the party, police showed up.

Though a cop acknowledged in court that Cox was not intoxicated, school administrators stripped her of the captaincy of the volleyball team and suspended her for five games.

School officials have declined to comment, except to say they're following the rules of the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association.

We spoke with MIAA spokesman Paul Wetzel about the rules.

This program aired on October 16, 2013.
