Rep. Moulton Named To House Armed Services Committee

Sixth district U.S. Rep. Seth Moulton has won a seat on the House Armed Services Committee.

The newest member of the all-Democratic Massachusetts congressional delegation says he's humbled and grateful for the appointment to the committee, which oversees defense and military policy.

Moulton is a former U.S. Marine who served four tours of duty in Iraq.

In a recent interview with The Associated Press, Moulton said he's concerned about putting more U.S. troops into harm's way and said Iraq has to be able to defend its own borders and protect its own people without relying on the U.S. indefinitely.

He said Congress needs to debate the nation's ongoing role in Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan.

He said he'll fight to protect defense industry jobs in the state's 6th Congressional District, which he represents.

Also Friday, U.S. Rep. Katherine Clark, of the state's 5th district, announced she's been nominated to the U.S. House Education and Workforce Committee.

“This appointment is an opportunity to lead the fight on affordable, high quality child care, equal pay, and worker protections,” Clark said in a statement.

She first won her seat in a special election in late 2013.
