Boston Mayor: No More Parking Space Savers Starting Monday

Spring cleaning is coming early in snowbound Boston.

Mayor Marty Walsh has declared an end to the orange cones, beach chairs and other quirky items that Bostonians use to reserve shoveled out parking spaces.

Officials will start clearing the "space savers" Monday.

Boston saw an unprecedented 8 feet of snow this past month. The epic snows have caused parking, traffic and commuting nightmares in the notoriously congested city. Streets and sidewalks are still largely piled high with mountains of ice and snow.

Space savers are generally allowed up to 48 hours after a storm, but Walsh had allowed residents to use them almost indefinitely this winter.

That has caused grief among residents battling for limited on street parking. Drivers that violate space saver etiquette risk returning to vandalized cars.
