Forecast: Slight Chance Of Showers, Hail — But Nothing Like Tuesday's Storms

After one of the largest outbreaks of hail I can remember, drier and cooler air has now moved into all of New England.

Throughout the day, the air will become increasingly more stable, but there is likely still enough energy from a small disturbance passing by at high levels of the atmosphere to kick off a few pop-up storms.

Unlike Tuesday when the chances of severe weather were much higher, today the opportunity for severe weather is much lower. That said, some storms, if they occur, could contain strong gusty winds and small hail. If you happen to get some hail today, it’s not going to be as large as yesterday.

Temperatures will be quite warm reaching into the mid-80s. Since there will be less humidity in the air, and there will be a bit of a breeze, it won’t feel very hot.

If you want to head to the beach or other outdoor venue I would rank today a 7 on a scale of 10, with 10 being the best day possible. If you don’t have a rain shower, it would be closer to an 8.

If there are showers this afternoon they will end early this evening. Skies are going to clear overnight and temperatures will fall to comfortable levels. Many areas will see thermometers in the mid-50s Thursday morning. Tonight will be a windows open, air conditioners off, kind of evening.

Thursday is a stunner of a day. I would rank it close to a 10 with light winds, highs near 80 degrees and low humidity. If you can take a long lunch or even get the day off, you won’t regret it.

There is still a chance of a period of showers, mostly over the south coast Friday evening and overnight. It’s looking like the weather system which was potentially going to bring rain to some areas will stay south of the region.

The balance of the weekend will be seasonably warm and dry with the most sunshine Sunday, but plenty Saturday as well. Have a great day.

Today: Sunshine yielding to building clouds and a slight chance of a thunderstorm. Some storms could contain gusty winds and small hail. Most areas stay dry. Breezy in the afternoon. Highs 83-87.

Tonight: Any showers end, then clearing. Lows in the 50s to lower 60s in Boston.

Thursday: Sunny, with a high 77-82.

Friday: Early sunshine, then some afternoon clouds with highs in the upper 70s.

Saturday: Partly sunny, with a high near 75.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with highs in the upper 70s.
