The trial of a Lawrence teenager accused of murdering and decapitating a high school classmate is underway.

Mathew Borges was 15 when he was charged with killing 16-year-old Lee Manuel Viloria-Paulino in 2016.

WBUR's Jerome Campbell attended the first day of the trial Monday, and joined Morning Edition host Jack Lepiarz to report.
