Pilot's Family Mourns After Small Plane Crashes In New Bedford Cemetery

The family of a pilot killed after a plane crash in a New Bedford cemetery is remembering him as a good pilot who loved flying.

Andrew Vidal tells WCVB-TV his father Paul Vidal had nearly 25 years of piloting experience.

Paul Vidal's wife Carol told WHDH-TV she believes her husband did everything he could to make sure he didn't injure anyone else when his plane crashed.

The 74-year-old Westport resident's Cessna 150 crashed Monday at the Rural Cemetery in New Bedford.

The Federal Aviation Administration says Vidal was licensed as a private pilot since at least February 2010.

He took off from New Bedford Regional Airport about 20 minutes before the crash.

The FAA is investigating, and the National Transportation Safety Board will release a preliminary report in about two weeks.
