The Associated Press projects U.S. Rep. Richard Neal will win his primary in the 1st Congressional District, pushing aside a strong challenge by Holyoke Mayor Alex Morse.

Neal led Morse, 61%-39%, with 40% of precincts counted.

Neal, from Springfield, has served in Congress since 1989. He currently chairs the powerful House Ways and Means Committee, effectively holding the congressional purse strings.

Neal will assuredly keep his seat because there are no Republicans running.
