Whether it's daily street violence close to home or mass shootings around the country, we don't often hear how gun violence affects the daily lives and mental health of young people overall.

Recently, WBUR CitySpace gathered Boston-area students for a virtual panel discussion about gun violence and how it impacts them personally.

The event was the first in a new series of discussions, for a project we're leading called Youth Takeover. It’s part of the Next Generation Public Media Accelerator, meant to empower high school and college students through deep exploration of issues important to today's youth culture.

WBUR’s Lynn Jolicoeur brings us some of the highlights of what the students shared.
