Monkeypox cases in Massachusetts remain few, but cases are rising. Here's what you should know

The number of monkeypox cases in Massachusetts is small, but rising quickly: jumping 37% in the last two weeks, according to the latest data from the Department of Public Health.

At least 157 cases were reported to the state. The virus, which has been spreading globally, is generally transmitted through close skin contact with people who have active lesions.

Dr. Kenneth Mayer, medical research director at Fenway Health in Boston, joined Morning Edition to discuss what is known about the disease and its spread so far.
