Let's Keep the Dodgers in Brooklyn by Phil Foster (from baseball's Greatest Hits: Let's Play II, Rhino 1990)

We've used this song a few times over the last 18 years, but always to augment a segment about the Brooklyn Dodgers. Never the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Context: it's everything.

Ugly by Violent Femmes (from Violent Femmes, WEA, 1983)

For reasons I won’t go into here, I almost used the song Violent by Ugly Hommes by mistake.

Homeless by Curtis Mayfield (from People Get Ready! The Curtis Mayfield Story, Rhino, 1996)

I'm a wise-crackin' kinda guy, but I'll suspend that for a moment and say that if you've never heard Mayfield's earlier material, such as many of the songs on this box set, then you should. It's amazing stuff.

Lazy by Freezepop (from Fashion Impression Function EP, Archenemy, 2002)

I like any band that has members with names like "Liz Enthusiasm", "Sean T. Drinkwater", "Robert John "Bananas" Foster" and "Christmas Disco-Marie Sagan". Which Freezepop does.

Wild Thing by X (from Beyond and Back: The X Anthology, Elektra/WEA, 1997)

Here's a dual-artist single idea, if I've ever heard one:

Side A: Wild Thing by X
Side B: A medley of all the songs on X's Wild Gift by The Troggs

Wait…that wouldn’t work…

Tidal Wave by Dick Dale and His Del-Tones (from King of the Surf Guitar: The Best of Dick Dale and His Del-Tones, Rhino, 1989)

What's taking Mr. Dale and his Tones of Del so long to come up with a stand up paddling theme?

This segment aired on July 2, 2011. The audio for this segment is not available.
