News all over, but this airline business really got my goat this week. Yes, Bush is off wrangling with NATO, Europe looks more tuned in to Putin than our President some days, McCain and Clinton are in a jokey mood, Obama's still packing on super-delegates, Zimbabwe may throw off a dictator.

But our Federal Aviation Administration has been helping our airlines fly us in unsafe planes. Threatening to fire outraged inspectors who complained. How can this be?

This hour, On Point: Fear of flying, and a whole lot more. Our Friday news roundtable goes behind the headlines.Guests:

Robin Wright, diplomatic correspondent for The Washington Post and author of "Dreams and Shadows: The Future of the Middle East."

Charles Babington, political reporter for the Associated Press.

Jack Beatty, On Point news analyst and senior editor at The Atlantic.

This program aired on April 4, 2008.
