Barack Obama’s Republican Secretary of Transportation, Ray LaHood, is in the middle of an awful lot of American life and economic action lately.
Cash for clunkers? That’s his baby. Billions in stimulus money for new roads and jobs? That’s his, too. Not to mention high-speed rail, a national infrastructure bank, a "passengers' bill of rights" for air travelers, and what to do about people texting while driving.
