The $500,000 MacArthur Genius grants were announced today, and an incredible 7 of the 23 winners are in the Boston region. From New England Conservatory jazz pianist Jason Moran (whom Radio Boston featured back in August) to Cambridge typographer Matthew Carter, designer of the Boston Globe's typeface, geniuses live among us in Boston.

We talk to some of these brilliant scientists and artists.

Guests:

  • Nergis Mavalvala, quantum astrophysicist and professor at MIT
  • Jessie Little Doe Baird, indigenous language preservationist and co-founder and director of Wôpanâak Language Reclamation Project of Mashpee, Mass.

This program aired on September 28, 2010.
