What happens to historic gravestones affected by acid rain, hail, construction projects gone wrong or — worse — vandalism?  Often, they end up far away from the graves they're supposed to commemorate. And some of those dislocated stones in Boston take up residence in a city archaeology laboratory.

We visit that basement lab and learn more about these orphaned headstones.

Guest:

  • Ellen Berkland, former archaeologist for the City of Boston, current archaeologist for the Massachusetts parks department

This program aired on October 28, 2010.
