When the FBI finally brought in alleged Boston mobster James "Whitey" Bulger last week, a lot of us saw his mug shot and thought: "That's 'Whitey?"

The bald, bearded man bore little resemblance to the mustachioed, bespectacled guy on the FBI's "most wanted" poster.

Forensic artist Patty Cornell says Whitey managed to outwit the FBI's age-advancing sketch composite technology with little more than a beard.

Guest:

  • Patty Cornell, forensic artist with the Rhode Island State Crime Laboratory, formerly a forensics detective on the Providence, R.I., police force

This segment aired on June 29, 2011.
