Ever since the events of 9/11, Americans have been struggling to understand the Muslim world. That includes a small but established Muslim-American community. Boston is home to a new center dedicated to fostering that understanding.

The American Islamic Congress will open their new cultural center Friday evening. And it has a pretty swanky address — nestled between the high-end shops and cafes, the cultural center is located on Newbury Street.

Radio Boston visited the new cultural center and sat down with Civil Rights Outreach Director Nasser Weddady.

Wedaddy says center will offer a space for the arts and will be open not only to the local Muslim community but to the entire city. Wedaddy wants to change the way Muslims are perceived in Boston and across this country.
