Pediatric neurosurgeon Ben Warf, director of the Neonatal and Congenital Anomaly Neurosurgery Program at Boston Children's Hospital, is one of four Boston-area winners of this year's MacArthur genius grant.

Warf, who lives in Lexington and grew up in eastern Kentucky, developed a technique to treat children with fluid on the brain (hydrocephalus) while working as "medical missionary" in Uganda. The treatment he used is now a standard of care for hospitals in the US.
