Two decades after making her start in the music industry, Melissa Ferrick is back with a new album.  "The Truth Is," drops in May 2013.

The writer of more than 150 songs joins us in studio to reveal her favorite tracks from the album.
These days, it's not just about making music. Ferrick is heading back to the classroom as a faculty member at Berklee College of Music this spring to teach her first college-level semester long course in songwriting.

And how exactly do you teach students to write good songs?

"I don't believe you can totally teach songwriting but I do think there is a space for encouraging people to re-write and re-structure. I want people to write songs about their lives. They [musicians] give words to people who don't have the words to express how they feel."

Ferrick admits it's hard to understand that some people can't easily express themselves through writing. "You have to encourage them and let them know they're doing something truly worthwhile," she says.

Melissa Ferrick performs her holiday show on Wednesday, December 26th and Thursday, December 27th at Club Passim.   More information HERE.
