John Kerry is doing a victory lap around the state today — saying goodbye to the constituents he's served for the past 28 years in the U.S. Senate.

Now that he's on his way to run the State Department as secretary of state, the race to succeed him is underway.

Democratic Congressman Stephen Lynch made it official today — and jumped into the race. He worked the crowds in Springfield this morning, then Worcester. And later today, he'll continue his campaign kick-off in his hometown neighborhood of South Boston.

Congressman Lynch is a former iron worker who became a union official before entering politics in 1994. In the contest for the Democratic nomination, he's a facing fellow congressman, Ed Markey, who's already announced that he wants to succeed John Kerry.

Guest:

  • Rep. Stephen Lynch,  U.S. representative for Massachusetts's 8th Congressional District and Democratic candidate in the upcoming senate special election
