The internationally-renowned soprano Deborah Voigt had her big break as Ariadne in Richard Strauss' "Ariadne auf Naxos" with the Boston Lyric Opera in 1991. Twenty-two years later, she's back in Boston performing a very different kind of show — an intimate, autobiographical performance titled Voigt Lessons. It features 18 songs that span classical and popular repertoire, woven together by award-winning playwright Terrance McNally and director Francesca Zambello.

She joins us to perform songs from Voigt Lessons, and to discuss the professional successes and struggles that shaped it.

Deborah Voigt will be performing Voigt Lessons tonight and tomorrow night at the Calderwood Pavilion as part of the Celebrity Series of Boston.

Guest

Deborah Voigt, internationally-renowned operatic soprano.

Kevin Stites, accompanist.

Graham Wright, founder and host of Opus Affair.

This segment aired on November 21, 2013.
