The news that the emergency contraceptive pill, Plan B, is ineffective in women who weigh more than 176 pounds made headlines around the world last week. But a quick glance beneath the headlines and it's evident that even before this latest news, Plan B was not the silver bullet many hoped it would be.
Family planning advocates fought hard to make Plan B more accessible, and they were victorious. But their efforts have gone unrewarded: rates of unintended pregnancy have not changed since the drug was first approved by the FDA in 1999.
