Eve Ensler Tackles Capitalism, Consumption, Political Compromise In 'O.P.C.'

"How are we to survive as a species if we insist on destroying the world we love?"

That's the big question Eve Ensler poses in her new play, "O.P.C.," or "Obsessive Political Correctness," which is onstage now, making its world premiere at the American Repertory Theatre in Cambridge.

The play also asks whether the Democratic party is still a force of progressive change.

"One of the dominant themes is this split, I think, that exists between the kind of radical, progressive left and the more moderate, Democratic party, liberal left," says Ensler. "What is the Democratic party and what is the function and how different is the Democratic party different than the Republican party and is it one big huge corporate conglomerate now that is really controlling everything?"

Ensler is best known for her one-woman show, "The Vagina Monologues," which she's performed around the world and which gave rise to "V-Day" and "One Billion Rising," a movement to end violence against women.
