Local Minister Grapples With Praying For A Controversial President

08:48

In the wake of President Trump's COVID-19 diagnosis, Americans have diverged on whether to have empathy for the president, and have struggled for the right response.

Rev. Laura Everett, who is the executive director of the Massachusetts Council of Churches, recently wrote an op-ed for Cognoscenti, WBUR's Ideas and Opinions Page, called "I'm Praying For Donald Trump, Even Though I Don’t Want To."

Everett explains in the piece how praying for the president isn't about who he is, but about who she wants to be.

This segment aired on October 6, 2020.
