This is the Radio Boston rundown for a special Nov. 27 edition of Radio Boston, bringing you stories of triumph over adversity. Tiziana Dearing is our host.

  • Sebastian Yoon was sentenced to prison at 16-years-old for manslaughter after a bar fight. It was there he began a journey to redemption and freedom through studying. Sebastian Yoon visited us in Studio 3 last year, along with film-maker Lynn Novick, whose documentary "College Behind Bars" tells his story, and caught the attention of many, including New England Patriot Devin McCourty.
  • Prison was also a central feature in Danielle Allen's adulthood. She would often visit her cousin Michael there,  who was arrested when he was just 15-years-old and spent his formative years in prison. Now a Harvard professor, Allen's 2017 book "Cuz: The Life and Times of Michael A," reflects on her journey through the Ivy League while Michael was incarcerated and then died violently. Allen spoke to Radio Boston's Meghna Chakrabarti about their divergent paths.
  • Our last story is about a boy who felt trapped by his community and attitudes about his identity. Tan France always dreamed of being a fashion designer, and overcame bullying to become one of the stars of Netflix's series, "Queer Eye." France visited our studios in 2019 to talk with Radio Boston's Jamie Bologna.

This program aired on November 27, 2020.
