The Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine is official. Monday, it received full approval from the federal government for people ages 16 and older. It maintains emergency use authorization for youth ages 12 to 15.

The Food and Drug Administration announcement puts the two-dose vaccine on par with all other marketed vaccines, the first such COVID-19 vaccine to receive this level of approval.

We turn to Dr. Davidson Hamer, infectious diseases physician at Boston Medical Center and a professor of infectious diseases and medicine at the Boston University School of Medicine, for reaction.

This segment aired on August 23, 2021.
