This is the Radio Boston rundown for September 30. Tiziana Dearing is our host.

  • 11 to 11. That was the tie vote in the Senate Judiciary Committee this morning that kept Suffolk County DA Rachael Rollins' future hanging in the balance. President Biden nominated her to be U.S. Attorney for Massachusetts and if confirmed, she'd be the first Black woman to hold the position. But Republicans, let by Senators Tom Cotton and Ted Cruz, are vowing to block her nomination. We hear about today's hearing from WBUR's Deborah Becker, plus further analysis from New York Times Magazine reporter Emily Bazelon.
  • Ibram X. Kendi is a genius. At least, the MacArthur Foundation dubbed him one when they named him part of their 2021 Fellows class this week. The fellows are also known as MacArthur "geniuses." This annual handful of academics, artists, writers, thinkers, and creators receive global recognition and $625,000 — which the fellows are free to spend however they see fit. Kendi is one of three fellows from the area. He is founder and director of the Boston University Center for Antiracist Research, and author of the best-selling book, “How To Be An Antiracist.”
  • The buzz has been building all week. And on Sunday night, the entire nation will be watching as Patriots legend Tom Brady returns to Gillette Stadium for the first, and maybe only time, since leaving the team less than two years ago. We try to process all the emotions rippling through Patriots Nation and Check the Score with Radio Boston's Chris Citorik.

This program aired on September 30, 2021.
