Ask the Doctors: Mix and match vaccine boosters, mandates
PlayEducation Commissioner Jeffrey Riley told the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education this morning that he expects an announcement on continued in-school masking early next week. As it stands now, the mask mandate in Massachusetts' schools expires November 1.
By the numbers in the pandemic, there were 10 new confirmed deaths over the weekend, and some 2,800 new COVID-19 cases. 569 patients are currently hospitalized in the commonwealth, 138 patients of them in intensive care units. Of the hospitalized, 205 are reportedly fully vaccinated.
FDA is set to allow "mix and match" options for boosters. But the CDC also has to weigh in. We take listener calls with Dr. Davidson Hamer, infectious diseases physician at Boston Medical Center and a professor of infectious diseases and medicine at the Boston University School of Medicine. And Dr. Gabriela Andujar Vazquez, an infectious disease physician, Associate Hospital Epidemiologist and Medical Director of the COVID-19 Vaccination Program at Tufts Medical Center.
