Omicron. It's the new coronavirus variant that has everyone talking.

Scientists at the World Health Organization say the global risk from the new variant, first seen in southern Africa, is "very high." And the CDC is now saying all adults should, not can but should, get a booster due to omicron.

This, as the 7-day average test positivity rate in the commonwealth is almost 4 percent, and accurate numbers from Thanksgiving won't be here for a few more days. And Governor Baker says that a QR code system to prove vaccination status could be on its way to the commonwealth.

We take listener calls with Dr. Shira Doron, Infectious disease physician and hospital epidemiologist at Tufts Medical Center. And Dr. Sabrina Assoumou, assistant professor of medicine at Boston University School of Medicine and infectious disease specialist at Boston Medical Center.
