This is the Aug. 24 rundown for Radio Boston. Tiziana Dearing is our host:

  • Some schools in Massachusetts are limiting the use of cell phones. Some are outright banning smartphones in classrooms, saying the devices are too distracting and can impact students' mental health. We talk to John Kalapos, associate head of school for Buxton School, a private boarding school in Williamstown, and child psychiatrist Dr. Neha Sharma.
  • Indictments have come down for three men suspected in the 2018 prison killing of Boston mob boss, James "Whitey" Bulger. We revisit conversations from the Radio Boston archive on the day news broke of Bulger's murder.
  • The Society of American Archivists is meeting in Boston for their annual conference this week. On their agenda this year is how to archive events in times of crisis. We hear from the archivist teaching others how to navigate this effort, plus someone who led the archiving effort of the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013.

This program aired on August 24, 2022.
