More than 600 immigrant families in the state who legally qualify for emergency shelter are now on the state's waitlist. And the number keeps growing. In the meantime, some people stay in cars for shelter in the middle of winter. Others lie down in the hallways of Logan Airport.

Radio Boston digs into how people are surviving as they wait for shelter and what the state is doing to mitigate the growing crisis this year and beyond with WBUR's Gabrielle Emanuel.

This segment aired on January 25, 2024.
