Stories from local medical workers who went on missions to Gaza, Sudan and Ukraine
We speak with three local medical workers, who are currently on, or recently have served, on medical missions in active conflict zones:
- Dr. Karim Fikry, an anesthesiologist based in Burlington, went on a medical mission to southern Gaza in April with the nonprofit FAJR Scientific.
- Dr. Frank Duggan, a Hingham-based emergency room doctor and founder of Health Care Volunteers International, has made six trips to Ukraine, most recently a year ago.
- Jaclyn Skidmore, an epidemiologist from Shrewsbury, has been based out of Port Sudan with Doctor Without Borders since April.
