New Bedford-area immigrants claim poor treatment during ICE detention
More than 50 immigrants living in the New Bedford area have been detained by U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement since President Trump took office in January. That's according to journalists at The New Bedford Light, who've been reviewing court records and interviewing immigrants to document their experiences.
Reporters from multiple news outlets have spoken with immigrants who've complained of inhumane treatment by ICE during their detention. WBUR previously reported about conditions at an ICE field office in Burlington, Massachusetts where the agency was holding detainees for extended periods.
Reporter Kevin G. Andrade worked on the New Bedford Light story along with reporter Eleonora Bianchi. Andrade joined WBUR's Simón Rios on All Things Considered.
This segment aired on September 1, 2025.
