Rep. Jim McGovern on the potential government shutdown
Much of the federal government is set to shut down at midnight Wednesday because Congress has failed to reach a deal on a stop-gap spending measure.
The spending bill has passed the House, but Democrats are holding it up in the Senate, pushing for concessions from Republicans including an extension of COVID-era tax credits for people who buy their health insurance from the exchange created under the Affordable Care Act.
Massachusetts Congressman Jim McGovern joined Deborah Becker on WBUR's All Things Considered to talk about the looming shutdown and concerns for constituents.
This segment aired on September 30, 2025.
