Immigrants move out of Mass. ICE office more quickly, but could face higher legal hurdles
Rep. Seth Moulton toured the Immigration and Customs Enforcement field office in Burlington Monday. He previously visited the center in June after reports that detainees were regularly held in the facility for several days without basic supplies, such as beds or adequate food. The Burlington center is not designed for long-term stays.
Moulton told WBUR's All Things Considered detainees are now being processed through Burlington much more quickly. But that comes with a significant downside; Moulton said immigration officials are moving detainees to detention centers outside of Massachusetts where they have less access to family and legal help.
