Marking 20 years of a landmark health care law in Massachusetts
Nearly all of Massachusetts residents have health insurance because of a bill Republican former Gov. Mitt Romney signed 20 years ago this weekend. The legislation created comprehensive changes to the state's health system in the state and paved the way for the federal Affordable Care Act.
WBUR's Morning Edition looks back on what the bill law has done so far and what's next for health care coverage advocates. Host Tiziana Dearing talks with Massachusetts Secretary of Health and Human services Dr. Kiame Mahaniah and John McDonough, a professor at Harvard's T.H. Chan School of Public Health.
This segment aired on April 10, 2026.
