Sound On is a concert series highlighting rising local musicians. Artists run the gamut from fresh faces new on the scene and experiencing a meteoric rise, to tried-and-true musicians who’ve been around for decades and are creating their most resonant work to date. Most importantly, the musicians featured in the series are producing excellent, original and compelling work — right in Boston’s own backyard.

Lee Zangari, WBUR’s Massachusetts favorite of the NPR Music Tiny Desk Contest, headlined a special Sound On festival that brought together an intimate collection of artists for an evening of music that will stay with audiences long after the lights go dark. The South Shore-based musician's song "A Man Is A Man" captured our attention and affection among the nearly 150 Tiny Desk Contest entries from Massachusetts due to their exquisite verse and chorus plucked over a mountain dulcimer. WBUR arts and culture reporter Amelia Mason wrote that at their best, “Zangari’s songs mine intimacy from abstraction.”

Joining Zangari were Prateek Poddar, whose “honest, elegant songcraft and luminous voice capture the ear and heart immediately” according to the Boston Globe, and interdisciplinary artist Eleanor Elektra, who fuses folk, jazz and classical music for a cinematic experience.
