Bringing Shakespeare To Kabul
ResumeWar-torn Afghanistan may not seem like fertile ground for staging a Shakespeare play. But German-Canadian actress and director Corinne Jaber decided to present one anyway.
She staged Shakespeare's "Love's Labour's Lost" in Kabul with an all-Afghan cast in an effort to revive the country's once-thriving theater scene.
It was the first time that Shakespeare had been performed in Afghanistan since the Soviet Union invasion in 1979, and the production featured men and women onstage together and actresses with their faces exposed.
Corinne Jaber joins us to speak about her experiences staging Shakespeare in Kabul.
