In the first two months of this year, paramedics in Louisville, Kentucky, issued medication to block the effects of overdoses to 703 patients. That’s more than triple the total from the same time period last year, and a nearly seven-fold increase from 2015.

Lisa Gillespie (@LVGillespie) of Here & Now contributor WFPL went along on a recent overdose call with a local paramedic to get a firsthand look at the problem.

This segment aired on May 18, 2017.
