
Iris Fanger
Dance Critic
Iris Fanger is a dance and theater critic and arts historian, based in the Boston area. Her reviews and articles have appeared in many newspapers including the Boston Herald, where she spent nine years as dance and theater critic, the Boston Globe, Boston Phoenix, Christian Science Monitor, New York Times and Patriot Ledger, among others. The former director of the Harvard University Summer Dance Center (1977-1995), she has taught at Lesley Graduate School, M.I.T. and Tufts University. She continues to lecture widely on dance and theater, most recently at Boston College and ARTIS at Naples Art Museum. She holds a Ph.D. in theater history and was awarded a post-doctoral fellowship at the Bunting Institute, Radcliffe College, named Dance Champion by the Boston Dance Alliance and received the Distinguished Career Award from Tufts University Graduate School. She continues as a fellow of the Massachusetts Historical Society.
