Tod Machover is a cellist, composer and inventor who believes passionately that technology can democratize music. He's widely recognized as one of the most innovative composers of his generation.

Machover is a professor of music and Media at MIT's Media Lab. Beyond composing, he's famous for his inventions, including Hyperscore and hyperinstruments, which make it possible for just about anyone to compose and play music — and which lead to the development of the wildly-popular video game Guitar Hero.

Machover is the first artist to be featured in WBUR's "Visionaries" series, which will profile men and women from Greater Boston who have earned acclaim for the work they do and the success they've achieved.
