Imagine an America in the not-so-distant future in which Congress passes an amendment to the U.S. Constitution that grants life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness to every embryo, outlawing abortion for all women across the country.

That's the reality of the women in the new novel, "Red Clocks," whose author says many of the laws of her fictional world have been suggested by U.S. lawmakers.

Leni Zumas will be appearing at Newtonville Books on June 20 and at UMass Amherst on June 21.
