Rethinking — And Renaming — Columbus Day

19:10

It's Columbus Day in Boston, but Brookline, Cambridge and Somerville will celebrate Indigenous People's Day.

As Indigenous and Italian Americans continue to stand on opposite sides of the Columbus Day question, we talk about where we stand.

We hear from Danielle Battisti, an associate professor at the University of Nebraska - Omaha and author of "Whom We Shall Welcome: Italian Americans and Immigration Reform."

We also talk with Paula Peters, or Sonk Waban, who is a member of the Mashpee Wampanoag tribe and an independent scholar of Wampanoag history.

This segment aired on October 12, 2020.
