Tips for good writing: Follow your obsessions and press 'where it hurts'

Host Darryl C. Murphy speaks with author and writing teacher Steve Almond about his new book, "Truth is the Arrow, Mercy is the Bow: A DIY Manual for the Construction of Stories." The book is part about the craft of writing and part memoir.

Almond has taught writing for 30 years and is an author of 12 books himself. He believes the secret to good writing involves a deep examination of what he calls our "inner lives." He also says most writers, including himself, are often too afraid to go there.
