Massachusetts is a very safe state for Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, and Republican Gov. Charlie Baker remains quite popular with voters.

Those are among the findings of a new WBUR statewide poll (topline, crosstabs).

The survey shows Clinton with a 26-point lead over Republican nominee Donald Trump. In a four-way race, Clinton has the support of 54 percent of poll respondents, Trump has the backing of 28 percent, Libertarian Gary Johnson is at 9 percent, and Green Party candidate Jill Stein is at 4 percent.

Some of the poll's other findings:

  • Clinton is viewed favorably by 48 percent of likely voters in the survey, compared with 38 percent who have an unfavorable view of her. Trump's favorable/unfavorable numbers are 26/65.
  • Republican Gov. Baker is seen favorably by 62 percent of likely voters, compared to just 16 percent who have an unfavorable view of him.
  • Fifty-three percent of likely voters in the poll think Baker deserves reelection, while 29 percent say it's time to give someone else a chance. Eighteen percent are undecided or don't know.
  • In a hypothetical match-up between Sen. Elizabeth Warren and former Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling, who's said he's considering challenging Warren, 54 percent of likely voters said they're more likely to support Warren, versus 29 percent who said they're more likely to back Schilling.

The live telephone survey of 506 likely voters was conducted Sept. 7-10 by The MassINC Polling Group.

Its president, Steve Koczela, joined Morning Edition Wednesday to discuss the findings. Listen to the conversation atop this post.

This segment aired on September 14, 2016.
